Paths of Perception is an experiential and participatory exhibition that explores environmental affairs through public art. The exhibition was curated by Hui (Becky) Li, MICA Curatorial Practice MFA 2018 Candidate and featured works by Eric Corriel, Paul Daniel, Nicoletta Daríta de la Brown, Susan Humphrey, Alfredo Rodriguez Medrano, Samantha Sethi.

The exhibition provides insight into how artistic practices can create awareness about the natural world and how nature itself can aid in the creation of works of art. Visitors are encouraged to explore the beauty of nature, questioning their own ties to the multiple relationships between human activity and the surrounding environment. An underscored message of exhibition is the timely environmental concerns of our impact on nature as it relates to the changing landscape and the continued loss of once-cherished places.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner column_width_percent=”100″ position_vertical=”middle” gutter_size=”3″ overlay_alpha=”50″ medium_width=”0″ mobile_width=”0″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ shift_y_down=”0″ z_index=”0″ width=”1/3″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space empty_h=”4″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row unlock_row_content=”yes” row_height_percent=”0″ overlay_alpha=”50″ gutter_size=”0″ column_width_percent=”100″ shift_y=”0″ z_index=”0″][vc_column column_width_percent=”100″ position_vertical=”middle” overlay_alpha=”50″ gutter_size=”3″ medium_width=”0″ mobile_width=”0″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ shift_y_down=”0″ z_index=”0″ width=”1/2″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner column_width_percent=”100″ position_vertical=”middle” gutter_size=”3″ overlay_alpha=”50″ medium_width=”0″ mobile_width=”0″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ shift_y_down=”0″ z_index=”0″ width=”1/3″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css_animation=”bottom-t-top”]

We illustrated the exhibition grounds at the Cylburn Arboretum with conte crayons to relate to the natural environments for which the sculpture and art installations were juxtaposed.

Illustrations of different trees, found at Cylburn, were used to create an irregular pattern as a kit of parts for the exhibition branding. Crisp typography balance the line work of the illustrations, in much the same way that sidewalks and paths at Cylburn meander through the grounds.

When School of Food launched in 2016, we created 4 short videos to promote some of the speakers and the topics that would be covered in the first semester of School of Food workshops. The videos are meant to be short and to the point with several quick tips to the trade from some of the best advisors.

We worked with local beatboxer Max Bent to create a custom rhythm for the sound of School of Food. The soundtrack was entirely created by Max using his mouth as the only instrument. The playful tune bounces around and pops as it creates an exciting and moody vibe for all School of Food videos.

Grey Gardens

Drawing upon the handheld magnifying glass that Edith “Little Edie” Bouvier Beale so delicately uses to inspect her costume du jour, we hand drew this illustration to give a close up peek into the charming yet dilapidated world of Grey Gardens. The Last 5 Years

While this show explores a five-year relationship between a novelist and a struggling actress in New York City, the story is told in reverse chronological order (beginning the show at the end of the couple’s relationship), and while also being told in chronological order (starting just after the couple have first met).  The characters do not directly interact for most of the show, except for a wedding song in the middle as their timelines intersect.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner column_width_percent=”100″ position_vertical=”middle” gutter_size=”3″ overlay_alpha=”50″ medium_width=”0″ mobile_width=”0″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ shift_y_down=”0″ z_index=”0″ width=”1/3″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row unlock_row_content=”yes” row_height_percent=”0″ overlay_alpha=”50″ gutter_size=”0″ column_width_percent=”100″ shift_y=”0″ z_index=”0″][vc_column column_width_percent=”100″ position_vertical=”middle” overlay_alpha=”50″ gutter_size=”3″ medium_width=”0″ mobile_width=”0″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ shift_y_down=”0″ z_index=”0″ width=”1/2″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner column_width_percent=”100″ position_vertical=”middle” gutter_size=”3″ overlay_alpha=”50″ medium_width=”0″ mobile_width=”0″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ shift_y_down=”0″ z_index=”0″ width=”1/3″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css_animation=”bottom-t-top”]

With multiple personalities and inexplicable blackouts, the lead character, “Chicklet,” fears that she might be the one responsible for a series of mysterious murders in her beach-side town. Trouble in Tahiti

This one act opera is set in 1950s suburbia, where Sam and Dinah appear to have the perfect life in their little white house. But their growing detachment exposes a mutual feeling that they are trapped in a life that has turned into a lie. Sam escapes to the hyper-masculine, win-or-lose world of work and the gym, while Dinah loses herself in the movies, where the hit picture of the day is the ominously-titled Trouble in Tahiti.

Ironically, Bernstein started to compose Trouble in Tahiti, a piece about a marriage falling apart, while on his honeymoon in 1951![/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner column_width_percent=”100″ position_vertical=”middle” gutter_size=”3″ overlay_alpha=”50″ medium_width=”0″ mobile_width=”0″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ shift_y_down=”0″ z_index=”0″ width=”1/3″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row unlock_row_content=”yes” row_height_percent=”0″ overlay_alpha=”50″ gutter_size=”0″ column_width_percent=”100″ shift_y=”0″ z_index=”0″][vc_column column_width_percent=”100″ position_vertical=”middle” overlay_alpha=”50″ gutter_size=”3″ medium_width=”0″ mobile_width=”0″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ shift_y_down=”0″ z_index=”0″ width=”1/2″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner column_width_percent=”100″ position_vertical=”middle” gutter_size=”3″ overlay_alpha=”50″ medium_width=”0″ mobile_width=”0″ shift_x=”0″ shift_y=”0″ shift_y_down=”0″ z_index=”0″ width=”1/3″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css_animation=”bottom-t-top”]

Hand to God

After the death of his father, meek Jason finds an outlet for his anxiety at the Christian Puppet Ministry, in the devoutly religious, relatively quiet small town of Cypress, Texas.

Jason’s complicated relationships with the town pastor, the school bully, the girl next door, and—most especially—his mother are thrown into upheaval when Jason’s puppet, Tyrone, takes on a shocking and dangerously irreverent personality all its own.

HAND TO GOD explores the startlingly fragile nature of faith, morality, and the ties that bind us.

The Owl Bar opened on December 14, 1903. It was then known simply as the bar room or bar at the Belvedere and would not take the name Owl Bar until after World War II.

Prohibition did not stop this hotel bar from playing host to an illustrious lineup of whales who were brave enough to take a sip of hooch, white lightening, and bathtub gin.

In the 1930’s, the Owl Bar quickly became Baltimore’s most notorious speakeasy when then bar owner, Colonel Consolvo brought in the infamous owl statues. When the Belvedere’s basement was stocked with whiskey the owl’s eyes would wink.

With a wise eye and a Pikesville Rye in hand, we rebranded of The Owl Bar with a wink to turn of the century liquor packaging, gilded lettering, and to the omnipresent winking owls that were installed above the bar during prohibition.

Baltimore is viewed as one of the major “centers of resistance to prohibition.“ The Owl Bar is without doubt renowned as a part of  the heart of Baltimore.

Undeniably Baltimore was a “wet” city, which meant that Baltimore continued the selling, distributing, and consumption of illicit alcohol, under the auspices of city and state government.

Creative Mornings landed in Baltimore in 2013. To announce the very first of many creative talks, we were asked to create an illustration of a breakfast party for some of Baltimore’s most famous residents.

Each Creative Morning begins with delicious treats and hot coffee. To celebrate the deliciousness that were offered, small notecards were made with hand-drawn images and lettering, to describe the monthly offerings.

The Nickel Taphouse is a small restaurant in the historic mill Village of Mount Washington, Baltimore, that was inspired by the working class taverns of the late 19th century.

Hand-drawn lettering and vintage illustrations were combined in a cheeky way to advertise delicious fresh oysters, seafood, local favorites, and an impressive line up of 32 craft beers on tap.

Dooby’s, a Korean-inspired cafe serving breakfast through dinner in Mount Vernon, has quickly made a lasting impression in Baltimore.

We refreshed the DOOBY’s brand with a new color palette, illustrations, food packaging, and swag. DOOBY’s is always out and about across the city at events, fundraisers, and farmers markets. Over the years, we have designed a number of booths and displays that have worked so hard for DOOBY’s that they should have their own frequent fliers miles.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner column_width_percent=”100″ position_vertical=”middle” gutter_size=”3″ overlay_alpha=”50″ medium_width=”0″ mobile_width=”0″ shift_x=”0″ If you are anything like us, and scared to death to get a real tattoo…because you know…it will hurt…look no further. Tattly is here to for you until you break down and decide to make the permanent leap of faith & pain.

These temporary tattoos are safe and non-toxic, lasting on average 2-4 days; even the gold metallic ones! Yay!!! Thanks Tattly!
